Today, let us reflect on the words of Nehemiah, 2:20:

"The God of heaven will give us success; therefore, we His servants will arise and build."

 

With this divine promise in our hearts, we stand before you to share a momentous announcement.  

 On November 10th 2022, the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church Diocese of North America and Canada, brought together a committee of seventeen dedicated individuals; architects, engineers, and professionals of various backgrounds, all bound by a profound spiritual devotion.  With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we embarked on a sacred mission.  

 

Today, with deep humility and gratitude, we unveil the culmination of our efforts: the establishment of the Tefsa Sedudan Debresina Gedam, our first monastery in North America and Canada. In honoring our Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo monastery heritage, this sacred haven holds profound significance for all faithful believers.  Gedam Debresina is a lighthouse of spiritual refuge for believers from all walks of life. In a world beset by chaos, it offers a sanctuary for spiritual renewal and healing.  Our youth yearn for respite from social media distractions and modern life. They seek moments of quiet or simplicity to their lives. The monastery will provide a space for contemplation and spiritual growth—where they can engage in meaningful learning and reflection. It will serve as a unifying force, bringing believers together across North America and Canada to celebrate our shared faith.  

 

Beyond its spiritual significance, the monastery will address practical needs within our church. It will provide space for Servants, Sunday school workshops, as well as training and enrichment of our priests, a permanent Dioces office. More than just a building, it symbolizes the manifestation of our Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo identity in North America—a testament to our faith and heritage.  

As we embark on this historic endeavor, we call upon each of you to play your part. Financial support is essential, and we humbly request each member to contribute what they can. Additionally, we ask all believers to consider signing up for a monthly membership contribution of as little as $10 or $20 to sustain this righteous cause. Our youth are encouraged to actively organize events and programs to support the monastery's development.

 

In the words of God to Israelites, Deuteronomy 16:17 "Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you."

 

Today, as we unveil the architectural renderings of the monastery, let them serve as a symbol of our collective vision and determination.

May God guide us as we strive to make this vision a reality.
